Ariel Cooper is an artist driven by the idea of cathartic creation. Their work investigates the connection between body and self within the context of their personal journey with gender. They received their BFA in Fine Arts from the University of North Florida and are currently an MFA Candidate at SUNY New Paltz.
An artist originally based in Jacksonville, FL, they have worked on multiple series of prints and presented them locally at the UNF Sex Week Research and Resource Symposium as well as the UNF Gallery of Art. Their paintings have also been featured in a local publication, The Talon Review.Â
They use a variety of techniques including intaglio, woodcut, and painting, both oil and watercolor, in their creative process. In this process, the act of creation serves as a therapeutic means to understand their relationship with tenuous identities and shed light on the complexities that exist within their mental and emotional landscape.
